August 10th marks the release of The Secret Sisters’ debut 45 with Third Man Records. The Jack White-produced record features a cover of Johnny Cash’s Big River and the sisters’ take on the classic folksong The Wabash Cannonball, with My Morning Jacket’s Carl Broemmel on pedal steel and Whiteon guitar. Pre-sales are currently being accepted now through www.thirdmanrecords.com.
The musical influences on the sisters (Laura and Lydia Rogers) aren’t hard to pin down. The pair attributes the development of their distinct vocal style to singing at family picnics, church functions, and to growing up with “a love of music from all sides’” of the family in Mussel Shoals, Alabama.
150 Tri Color singles will be made available of this release. 50 will be included in random mail-orders through Third Man Records’ website, and 100 will be available from their Nashville storefront on Saturday August 14th from 12 noon.
