Music To Get You Off Your A.S.S. from August 21—28

Albums

Rick Ross – Teflon Don

As a huge fan of 50 Cent it pains me to admit that Rick “Officer” Ross’ new album may be the best of the year; which really says something when both Eminem and up and comer B.O.B. have released albums this year.

Fantasia – Back To Me

Despite mentioning Adam Lambert later in this column I promise that I am not promoting that stupid singing competition in any way, shape, or form.

Best Coast – Crazy For You

God do I hate mushy, “I want to be with you so much” rock music. However, when it’s coming from a female lead singer it’s much easier to listen to, and in this case, actually quite good.

Big Boi – Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty

Even without his constant partner Andre 3000, Big Boi makes a strong showing in his second attempt at a solo album. While it’s long and ridiculous title may dissuade some, don’t be the person to make that mistake.

Songs

Katy Perry – “Teenage Dream”

Now that “California Gurls” has been played on the radio enough to make me nauseous Katy Perry releases a completely different sounding song that won’t garner many spins or recognition.

Flo Rida feat. David Guetta – “Club Can’t Handle Me”

This song may have the most accurate title out right now, as the combination of mix master Guetta and rapper Flo Rida are blowing the roofs off of clubs all over the east coast.

Linkin Park – “Catalyst”

Linkin Park is back and purists are already complaining about how their music is still too whiny. Personally I loved Minutes to Midnight and think their new sound shows they’re maturing as one of the best acts of my generation.

Taylor Swift – “Mine”

Ever since Kanye famously snatched the MTV music award from the teen pop-country stars hand Taylor Swift has been laying kind of low. Now back, Taylor makes a strong showing in this song that is sure to please all of her fans and Kanye’s haters.

Shows

August 21st:

Billy Joel at Citi Field in Flushing, NY at 5:30 p.m.

I’m not going to waste any time here to convince you to go see Billy Joel, if you don’t want see the living legend than you’re too far gone already.

Jonas Brothers at Nikon at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, NY at 7:00 p.m.

Hating on the Jonas Brothers is so high schoolish, and since I am no longer in high school I’m going to say to go see the trio of siblings; so yeah, go see them.

August 22nd:

Christopher Titus at Carolines on Broadway in New York, NY at 8:00 p.m.

No I didn’t accidentally include a non-musical act; I just had to throw this in for two reasons. 1) Christopher Titus is hilarious and his show should never have been cancelled. 2) I’m going to be there.

August 23rd:

Adam Lambert at Palace Theatre Albany in Albany, NY at 8:00 p.m.

While I’m not the biggest fan of his, um, style, I will recognize that he has many fans and that if you are one of them you might want to go see this show.
