Hey everyone! Welcome to the podcast. I am super excited to share with the artist we are featuring today. Her name is Keen Garrity. Also known as Rebekah Burchfield. This Toledo, Ohio-based artist is a singer, songwriter, and producer.

Raised in Knoxville, Garrity comes from a long line of musicians and is no stranger to music. Aside from her long musical lineage Garrity also spent the late 80’s fronting an indie progressive rock band called Wards of the Mayor.

This January was the release of her debut album “Get Big. It is also her first venture into the country music genre.

The music has been described as storybook pop.  This album is like chapters in a book. You get a little story with each song along with a central overall theme.

When talking about the album Garrity says,

“The word I always come back to is “storybookish.” Each song on ‘Get Big is about a creature or character, and there’s a little story around each one. But there’s a common theme: all of these songs are about creating a mythology of the self, about flaring your ego out when you’re faced with a situation that makes you feel insignificant. So, it’s fanciful and (somewhat obnoxiously) high-concept, but it’s my hope that it’s also fun, listenable, and relatable.”

That indeed is what she has created here. Every track will engage you as a listener. It’s got dark and haunting melodies. This is only surpassed by her ability to create such an amazingly vivid picture with her lyrics. She speaks to the listener and takes them on a journey with her music.

If you want to hear for yourself. Here is a taste of Garrity’s title track “Get Big.”
